The dry dock was located on a prison island in the harbour, Anyways, while we were there a "druglord" escaped from the island. He made it to one of the Favelas and the army couldn't get him out. The poorest of the poor really did idolize this guy. Apparently, he gave plenty to those who had little and became something of a folk hero. Other than south Florida, Rio was my biggest "culture shock" up to that point. i have since discovered so much similar way closer to home!
